About MTBMike
Mountain Bike Mike is a family project dedicated to the promotion of mountain biking, both as a competitive sport and a recreational activity.
In September 2010, our 10-year-old son Michael started competing in kids’ mountain bike races at events in which his dad, Steve, was also participating. We
made short videos of those races, which were initially posted on YouTube, so that family members could see what he was doing, and the other kids could see themselves. When Steve purchased a helmet-cam from ProEdgeBiker.com to add footage of the events (his and Michael’s) from a first-person perspective, the videos really took off.
Near the end of the first season of racing, Michael suggested that he start his own blog, called Mountain Bike Mike. The purpose of this blog would be to discuss the sport from a kid’s point of view and to showcase our videos and photos, as well as photos taken by others at the events. We thought it was a great idea and helped him get it off the ground. You can find his original and continuing blog here.
This site is an expansion of the original blog. It’s purpose is to provide useful trail reviews (including video, of course) and other important information about our local trails, and those we encounter on our excursions, that will benefit all levels of riders. In addition, regional race event information will also be posted. Other “stuff” may be added as we grow and discover a need.
Mountain biking is an activity that just about anyone with a bike, a helmet and desire to ride can enjoy. Below is a video explaining how mountain biking became such an integral part of our family’s life.
